These mining concessions are located in an area called Melak in the Province of Kutai Barat and in the District of Nyuatan in East Kalimantan. The mines can be accessed either by road from Balikpapan which will take about 6 to 8 hours. Alternatively there is a flight from Balikpapan to Melak 4 times a week. The actual mining concession area is about 1 ½ hours by a 4 wheel drive from Melak. It is also about 60 km north east of Trubaindo Coal Mines which is operated by Banpu Public Limited, Thailand.
Preliminary geological examination on the site including boring tests shows that there is at least 30 million tons of coal and with further boring tests the reserves could prove to be much more than the initial findings. The coal quality ranges from low calorific value to high calorific value coal. Some seams have low sulphur while some seams have high sulphur.
